Information For Trader/Participants

The Christchurch Christmas Market is now available for booking with three date options:

03/12/2020 to 06/12/2020 - 4 days
08/12/2020 to 13/12/2020 - 6 days

Saxon Square Christchurch is our latest venue to be confirmed for Christmas 2020.

Our strategy for trading over the Christmas period 2020 is to focus on local communities where there is a strong local audience and where there is a significant pool of visitors to attract within a relatively small radius. We feel that major events which depend on coach tours and tourists are not the way forward this year. Instead, we are working with venues to deliver viable events with safe, controlled environments and promoted to 'select' audiences that will genuinely appreciate the offer.

We are looking for stalls selling Christmas Gifts, Stocking Fillers, Hamper Items, Decorations & Festive Grocery Food

All grocery foods and crafts are required to work from mini marquees provided by Market Square Group - these are included in the pitch fee.

For any event that you book within a 20 mile radius of your address, you would qualify for 25% local trader discount on the pitch for short stay events, if your product is craft or grocery.  This is booked at full price through the website and discount is applied at invoice.

Interesting Facts About The Venue

Christchurch covers an area of 19.5 square miles adjoins Bournemouth to the west, with the New Forest to the east and has a population of over 50 000 (one of the highest populous settlements in Dorset)

Saxon Square is an open air shopping centre in the heart of Christchurch running adjacent to the high street. Open 7 days a week, the centre is home to well know brands and boasts a high occupancy rate.

Where Saxon Square now stands once stood Hookey’s House, believed to have been built in fourteenth century, but pulled down in 1972 to make way for the Square. The building was a medieval wooden frame cruck building. Samuel Hookey was known as the Wicked Man of Wick. He was born just across the River Stour and his first job was as a blacksmith’s apprentice at Pound Lane, which is visited at the end of this Virtual Tour. In the eighteenth century he became a successful smuggler and owner of three luggers which he kept in Christchurch Harbour. Luggers were double ended and shallow bottomed so cargoes could be unloaded directly onto beaches at low tide and the vessel floated off at high tide. Like many successful smugglers Hookey became a pillar of society and was Mayor several times. Hookey was supposed to have been drowned in the River Stour being weighed down by a body belt full of golden guineas for smuggling to France.
