The Big Eat

A tasty new themed market from the market square group

The Big E.A.T brings together a unique range of traders and products providing a truly original themed event for town and city centres across the UK.

The 3 main ingredients for this appetising themed market:

E is for ethical & eco-friendly
A is for artisan
T is for traceable

E is for ethical & eco-friendly

Goods manufactured in UK and abroad under fair working conditions and fair reward for all involved in their production.
Sustainable business practices that demonstrate a concern for the local community and for the environment.
Variety is the spice of big E.A.T

No two events have the same make up thanks largely to our local trader policy and through our dedication to creating a ‘balance’ within our events.

Each event is advertised based on its own individual merits – we do not insist that traders book every event with us – the choice is made freely.

Because we are not contractually bound to provide regular work for a team of traders, we are at liberty to pick and choose the stalls that we feel appropriate to each individual event.

Trading stalls including arts, crafts, clothing, jewellery and home furnishings together with takeaway street food plus local and regional homemade foods.

Promotional stalls – businesses looking to increase general awareness of their products and/or services

Local government project promotions

Community focused initiatives

Music/Entertainment

Craft demonstrations

A is for artisan

Goods and foods made by hand to original designs and recipes. Businesses local to our venues will feature strongly in this character as we promote the character and uniqueness of different regions.

Big E.A.T promotes merchants, producers and designer – makers who can show an in depth knowledge of the product.

We take pride in the fact that we encourage participation from the community local to our events. We aim to leave a minimum of 25% of the market space open to applications from traders who live within 30 miles of the event and encourage local businesses to participate as part of our locally sustainable ethos.

Charitable causes are welcome – e.g. air ambulance/British Legion/Youth Groups

T is for traceable

The ingredients of our street food stalls must be clearly listed and traceable to source. Our grocery and take way food stalls add an exciting and dynamic dimension to the theme as the cooks and producers tempt the taste buds.

We ask that our food providers source local produce where possible, clearly list the ingredients of their hot food dishes and grocery foods and share the ‘secrets’ of their produce with the visiting public.

In all cases we will be selecting the very best in their categories for our market.

Table manners
Food must be homemade from fresh ingredients, and we insist on a ‘buy local’ policy with all our hot food stalls. Thus, wherever possible, we expect our stalls to source their ingredients from producers and retailers who live and work within the community that we are visiting.

Free range, homemade, made from fresh ingredients are required and organic preferred on our events, but in all cases ‘traceable’ is the keyword and menus must state where the main ingredients come from.

Goods
We ensure that all stall holders provide information on their products which justify their place on the Big E.A.T.  Once we are happy to accept a booking, we then expect that this faith will be repaid by stall holders as we ask them to provide clear product information for the visiting public.

More Information

Keeping it fresh
Big E.A.T brings together a variety of elements which combine to ensure vitally, originality and relevance.  Although we adhere to a set of criteria, the content of one event is never the same as another:

Each event is advertised based on its own individual merits – we do not insist that traders book every event with us – the choice is made freely.

Because we are not contractually bound to provide regular work for a team of traders, we are at liberty to pick and choose the stalls that we feel appropriate to each individual event.

Our local friendly policy where we actively seek out local businesses and community led initiatives to be part of events means that there is a unique relevance to each venue that we visit.

We do not keep the same format for each event, although we have a ‘formula’, it is readily adapted to regional variations and the ingredients that present themselves.

Focus on the environment
We do our best to promote an eco friendly environment within the event itself - e.g. we are a plastic bag and packaging free zone, we bring recycling bins onto site, we run eco friendly awareness workshops and encourage stall holders to reduce their carbon foot prints through a variety of measures including vehicle sharing.

We aim to promote a least one significant and ‘practical’ eco friendly project/idea/business per event.

Focus on local and regional
The Big E.A.T offers discounts to local businesses that wish to take part.  We consider all applications from established and start up businesses, retail sales and promotional activities.

We can provide stalls and support for local groups and encourage community focus groups, civic groups etc as well as commercial enterprises.

What does it look like?
As event operators, we aim to provide town centres with a colourful, intriguing, and visually stimulating event.  We know that content and presentation are vital in attracting our audience and have set our standards high. Full support is given to stall holders to ensure that they, and the market as whole, benefit from good presentation.
